Biking Kills

Statewide in 2005, the Minnesota Department of Health recorded 614 injuries resulting from collisions involving bicycles and motor vehicles with 471 in the seven-county metro area. In 2006, the latest year for which statistics are available, there were 581 statewide and 432 in the metro area.
It doesn't take much for a serious injury or death to occur when a bicyclist is involved in an accident, said Dr. Rob Reardon, who works in emergency medicine at HCMC.
"Biking is dangerous," he said. "You don't have to be going very fast to get hurt or have a severe head injury. It only takes a split second to change your life."
If you are biking to save the environment, keep it up and the law of averages says we'll have a few less Obama voters in November.
If you bike for your health, you'd better have a large life insurance policy as you're risking your life.
If you are biking because you are poor, get a second job and take the bus. Odds are you might just be seriously hurt and then you'll be even poorer.

You may be surprised to learn than many people don't like bikers much. Most drivers are tired of dealing with their law breaking behavior and smug attitudes. So use a little common sense and bike on trails, not roads. And please stop try to "win" your battle with drivers, the laws of physics aren't on your side. (No, the laws of mass, speed and inertia aren't socially constructed, they are deadly facts when an Obamba supporter on a bike tangles with an SUV.)
