Why I still support the war in Iraq

Liberals always say that we shouldn't settle for what is, but dream of what could be.

Well for once, we tried it their way. It would have been very easy for the USA to go on dealing with Saddam Hussein. We could ignore his human rights record, his funding of terrorists and even his chemical weapons. The European route (ie. the easy one) would have been to make speeches in the UN, pass resolutions but ultimately leave things exactly as they were.

But post 9-11, with a whole new understanding of just how easy terrorism is able to jump from the Middle East to the US, Bush and the Neo-cons decided to try a new approach. They would actually do something to try and change the Middle East.

So, we decided to put some power behind resolution 1441 and then gave Saddam an ultimatum to disarm or be deposed. Saddam thought we were bluffing, yet again. George HW Bush did nothing to help the last uprising in Iraq, so Saddam expected more of the same from GW. He was wrong.

Five years later, here we are. We easily defeated Saddam and his army but we waded neck deep into the God-awful mess that is the modern, oil rich, Islamic Middle East. The people that are still fighting don't care about Saddam, WMD's, OIL or even money. They hate the west, freedom, women and just about every single thing your average American liberal loves. The terrorists fighting us now are fighting to preserve their way of life. A lifestyle of death, slavery, torture and subservience. They well know better than most Americans that Democracy and freedom will mean an end to the way of life that they have come to love (Yes, some people really do love to kill!)

So you are right, we tried something that no one has ever done successfully and it turns out it wasn't every easy. We would have over 4,000 soldiers alive today if we had just turned a blind eye to rape, torture and abuse. (I might guess that globally well over 4,000 more civilians would have been killed by terrorists. But they have killed 10,000 since 9-11 and the left doesn't seem to mind that!)

So there you have it. We did what Americans do, we tried something new. It might not work and it was a hell of a lot harder than we thought, but at least we tried to spread freedom in the Middle East. And for that, I will always be proud to have supported the GWOT, the war in Iraq and GW Bush.

Liberals hate to admit it, but they really wanted us to do nothing. They throw out lines about the UN or Sanctions but we all know than nothing would have changed. And now they are very, very proud that they resisted an attempt to make the lives of millions of people better. This is the sad of modern liberalism. They are proud that they have given up. They resent the fact that we attempted to spread freedom and the only way they can salve their guilt is for us to lose so that they can say I told you so.

If you are cheering for the US to lose, you might want to re-examine your position.
