Police Chief Tim Dolan uses the letters to the editor page of the Red Star to squander what good will he had by trying to weasel out of the mess his department created by ruining the name of Mark Loesch. Keep this up and you'll be gone in a year Tim.

Dolan backs Huffman

I must set the record straight regarding Homicide Commander Amelia Huffman's handling of the Mark Loesch homicide.

The reality is that any decision between a rock and a hard place comes to the chief's desk. I take full responsibility regarding the decision to acknowledge the account of one of the accused and charged suspects. We knew that the media would get the full confession eventually, and we knew they would print it. Why? Because it is newsworthy. If the confession did not come in court proceedings, it would have been leaked to the media or become public information with the closure of the case.

"Don't blame us, it was the evil media" BULLSHIT Tim. Your department should have let the chips fall. As pathetic as the Red Star is, they don't make a habit of printing every lie a uttered by every scumbag that testifies in Minneapolis. Your department gave these lies credibility that they wouldn't have had if your department hadn't spread these lies.

You talk about responsibility and then blame the media? That's skirting blame. You need to admit that you and your people fucked up. That is taking responsibility, Douche bag!

It is very hard for the police department to defend itself from attacks by those not happy with our decisions on this case because the homicide is still an open case. The most recent charging on the case was just two days ago. Commenting on the quality or quantity of evidence in any open case is extremely unprofessional and against department policies.

I definitely understand and sympathize with the emotions surrounding this case and any homicide. We work hard to try and balance what we have to do to solve and prosecute a case and respect the wishes of victims' families. Obviously, those two goals don't always coincide. Lt. Huffman has my full trust and support in her handling of the Minneapolis Homicide Unit.

Asshole! The family of the victim want you to do your damned job and find the killers. Where is the confilct? Was dragging Mark's name through the mud necessary to catch his killers? NO! You did it to cover your asses as crime is out of control and everyone knows it including you and the MPD. You tried to play politics when you should have STFU and just done your job.

This letter just makes things worse. I hope that the Loesch sues the living shit out of the MPD and the City of Minneapolis. They deserve way better treatment than from our public servants.
