THE TWO PARTY SWINDLE
As we go about our daily lives, with a worry for the homeless on the Gulf Coast, the Democrats and Republicans in Washington are deciding how many of your billions to flush down the rathole in Louisiana.
Senators Vitter(R) and Landrieu(D), of Louisiana, have proposed over $250 BILLION in new spending in their state alone to correct damage from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
I haven't heard much outrage at the brazen grab for the till by any other U.S. Senators. There also seems to be little or no will to cut any pork to pay for the first $61 BILLION already voted for allocation to hurricane relief.
Louisiana is such a black hole of corruption it is unending. The FBI district director claimed the corruption went from top to bottom in "all levels" of government, here. Another corruption wrapup, here, shows that he wasn't kidding. More fine examples of Louisiana politics at work screwing the taxpayer, here.
For Christ's sake, the LAST THREE INSURANCE COMMISSIONERS TO THE STATE HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF FEDERAL CHARGES! The current commissioner is a holdover and even he admitted to allowing convicted felons to obtain licenses to sell insurance in Louisiana.
MSNBC has a run down of typical levee board fraud, here. You know, the people who were supposed to be spending money to protect from hurricane caused floods.
The most frustrating part to me, falls within Tracy's last post hoping for rigorous competition in the political arena of ideas. Without any real pushback in his own party, President Bush will simply rubber stamp whatever the Congress approves, and even avoid any sound ideas of his own, so that he can look "compassionate". Screw compassionate, how about responsible, or maybe fiducial. (For you Liberals, fiducial means looking out for our money as if it were his own.)
All in all the final piece that may have me revising my opinion of Mayor Nagin slightly are these small facts. Mayor Nagin actually ran a business in Louisiana. He headed up Cox Cable's southern division. He was successful in business and ran for mayor because as a business man he saw the rampant corruption of the French "Cajun" mafia, and was hoping to make a change for the better. Unfortunately his change is for an incompetent, liberal, social services do-gooder regime that has proved a failure in the past. May be that he's not corrupt, just stupid.
My previous posts have stated how Jindal was not a part of the corrupt "Babineaux" regime of cronyism and should have been Governor of Louisiana. Well, Nagin publicly backed Jindal, and probably payed the price when Blanco failed to coordinate relief efforts with him directly.
Back to my original point. The government of Kathleen Blanco in Louisiana is corrupt enough that Kofi Anan is probably taking notes to learn new tricks, and our "Grand Old Party" is going to feed these imbeciles our money with a grain shovel to look caring. Oh yeah, and don't touch our pork, we need reeelection at home too. We all expect the Dems to dive into the money pile with two hands open wide. Where is the loyal conservative opposition? I smell a British "Tory" rat, read as, small "s" socialists running our Republican Party workings who will only quibble around the edges of any monetary shake down.
This disaster should have been an example of how big government and the tangle of bloated red tape bureaucrats fails you when they have to be nimble and inventive. Instead of using this as an opportunity to reduce regular government discretionary spending, streamline federal agencies, abolish old and failed welfare state programs, impose more self reliance and clean up corruption in Louisiana it is becoming a big love fest of cover my own ass and spend it fast to quiet the media crowd. This may be the true test, and failure, of the Bush administration to make any lasting conservative policy implementations outside of judicial appointments and national defense actions.
Chuck Norris for President. Alice Cooper in a pinch. Bush is a has been.
Nick Coleman is still a Nazi. Please post in comments verifying sightings with swastika arm band at anti-war/Israel or more tax rallies.
